Morris Chapter Vice President of Public Policy Gwen Nagorsky is pictured here with U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) at the Second Annual Women of Distinction Awards Ceremony celebrating Women’s History Month last month and honoring seven New Jersey women. The ceremony honors women of achievement in New Jersey who have made incredible contributions in their fields of expertise.
The senator created the Evangelina Menendez Trailblazer Awards in memory of his mother who was an inspirational figure and role model and passed away in 2009. Sen. Menendez is a strong supporter of women and recently has ensured that insurance companies can’t use “gender rating” to charge women higher rates for health insurance and created a federal program to support mothers suffering from post-partum depression.
Sen. Menendez also helped pass the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, a bill which takes significant steps to close the wage gap between men and women and provides fair recourse for those who experience pay discrimination. Gwen attended the ceremony representing Morris NJAWBO and showing our support for the Senator and his work supporting women and the ceremony honoring the achievements of seven successful New Jersey women.

Our goal is to facilitate a broader visibility of the Morris Chapter to local, state and federal elected officials by communicating that NJAWBO should and could be used as a source of business information and guidance in their policy making agendas.
Through your NJAWBO membership, you are affiliated with key business advocacy organizations such as WIPP (Women Impacting Public Policy) through their Northern NJ Instant Impact Team and the ELC (Employer Legislative Committee), a grassroots affiliate of the NJBIA. We periodically attend the meetings of these groups to remain apprised of their agendas and to communicate pertinent information to our membership.
We have made available to our membership contact information to local, state, county and federal elected officials for your convenience (Click Here). We also suggest visiting the NJAWBO's state website at www.njawbo.org and visit the public policy section to learn more about NJAWBO's agenda and to visit the NJ Legislature website at www.njleg.state.nj.us for information about bills introduced and supported by your legislators.
Chapter members interested in participating on the Public Policy committee are encouraged to volunteer. If you want to help out or have questions or concerns regarding public policy issues, contact Gwen at publicpolicy@morrisnjawbo.org.
